This Is How Anyone Can Benefit From Frozen Fruit Smoothies

I’m a big fan of yummy cold treats during the summer and since it’s bikini season, it should also be low in calories. Making a frozen fruit smoothie with some strawberries, a few banana slices and some low-fat yogurt and milk sounds like the perfect solution. It tastes good and is actually good for me. Let’s take a look at what makes this beverage so healthy.

Let’s start with the frozen fruit. You know how healthy eating plenty of fruit is. It is full of fiber and of course vitamins. You may be surprised to find that it is actually better to use frozen fruit. The produce is harvested when it has the most vitamins and nutrients. Since fresh produce is a couple of days old by the time you get it from the store, frozen vegetables and fruits are actually healthier and better for us. It’s been picked, processed and shipped to the store. In that time, many of the nutrients (and vitamins) start to go away. And this is exactly why smoothies made with frozen fruit are even healthier for you.

Milk and Yogurt – Next we’ll take a closer look at the dairy ingredients for our frozen fruit smoothies. I am talking about skim milk and non-fat yogurt. Both have plenty of calcium in them which is important for our bones. As women we particularly benefit from this important mineral. As we get older our bones are depleted of calcium and we have to replenish it or risk osteoporosis as we get older. For the same reason, smoothies are also healthy for kids. They benefit from the calcium boost just as much since their growing bodies require plenty of it.

Both yogurt and milk also contain protein which plays an important factor in muscle building and maintenance. It is very important to get lots of of protein when you are on a diet or most of your weight loss will be in muscle instead of body fat.

Staying Hydrated – Since smoothies have quite a bit of liquid in them from the milk and all the juice in the fruits, they are a great way to hydrate. Without plenty of water our bodies can not function and during a hot summer day we tend to lose even more than usual of the precious liquid. Smoothies are my favorite way to help us stay hydrated – of course you should still make sure you drink plenty of plain water as well.

The fact that they are frozen also helps our bodies cool down. It’s just one of the many benefits of drinking a frozen fruit smoothie. By far my favorite though is the fact that they taste absolutely delicious and help fill me up with just a few calories. All this makes it the perfect summer treat.
