How to Use Asian Design in a Small Space
One of the benefits of Asian decor is that it is very easy to use it in even the smallest space. This is because the décor is not as dependent on the quantity of items in the home but on the balance between space and form, between the person and the environment. The idea of turning a small home into a shipshape living space where there is efficiency of storage is not part of the Asian design approach.
Asian design recognizes space as the most important aspect so any aspect of Asian design rejects the concept of finding a way to squeeze more stuff into a small space. Instead using Asian design techniques in a small space rely on the following actions:
• Declutter. Clutter, dirt, and dust block the flow of energy.
• Keep only essential furniture.
• Streamline the ornaments. If you have a lot of ornaments you want to use, display a few at a time and rotate them with other beloved ornaments.
• Create a center of serenity
Furniture should be low. Colors should be light. Keep the walls uncluttered – hang only a couple of pieces of art. Use bamboo, fresh flowers, and a water fountain to create the Asian ambiance. Let in as much natural light as possible. Open the windows if possible. If not, install an air purifier.
